The OED is updated on a quarterly basis, and the updates make up the Third Edition of the OED. The material added to the dictionary includes revised versions of existing entries (which replace the older versions), and new words and senses both within the alphabetical sequence of revised entries and also across the whole A to Z range.

Our latest update to the OED, published on 24 March, revises more than 1,900 entries and adds new words from across the dictionary. It also sees the launch of our new website, which has come a long way since we first moved the dictionary online in 2000. This 14 December, we have added our latest batch of new and revised words to the Third Edition of the OED, which includes pomander-prajnaparamita. As well as Pompadour pink, power-up, and poster child have joined the dictionary.
The Oxford Dictionary of English (ODE) is a single-volume English dictionary published by Oxford University Press, first published in 1998 as The New Oxford Dictionary of English (NODE). I too had the french version of Apache Open Office and just wanted the US spellcheck. It was throwing error, but as you have instructed I have closed all the open pages and restarted the OpenOffice and the dictionary which made everything work properly. I was working with a project how to learn french with ease ( ref ). Thanks to latest version of OpenOffice, it really helped me to fix the spelling error troubles.
Running 3.4.1Extension manager shows no dictionary. I downloaded the en_US.oxt. Invoked the "add" in the Extension manager. Extension manager label reads: Adding en_US.oxt". Popup titled extension manager advises "an error occured during file opening". (Note that the correction spelling is "occurred" [with 2 "r"s]".
I, too, am having trouble with OO spellcheck suddenly showing all words underlined (i.e., not in the dictionary). When I checked Options in Spellcheck, it appeared as though the English dictionary is there, but I downloaded it again, saved it as an .oxt in the Extensions Manager. It now shows up there (with the .oxt extension) and also in the Spellcheck Writing Aids (with the .oxt extension) as does the original US English dictionary. Any ideas as to why every word is allegedly misspelled, and the dictionary is not working>
I have seen several posts regarding a situation where the spelling check function has suddenly stopped. Mine has done the same and i have seen no viable solutions. I have attempted downloading the US English dictionary, but to no avail. I have been using AOO to write a book and been very pleased until now. Having every single word flagged is incorrect is annoying, distracting, and renders your product all but useless. As a further note, when I went to to APP 3.4.1, it caused major problems with my operating system. How can I get the dictionary installed so that can move forward?

I have tried to install this extension because a virus wiped out all the words in my original file. But when I try to install it using the extensions manager I get "file does not exist" and nothing gets installed. I need to know how to manually install this dictionary. The auto-install (download) does the same exact thing.
The Gutenberg Project hosts Webster's Unabridged English Dictionary plus many other public domain literary works. Actually it looks like they've got several versions of the dictionary hosted with copyright from different years. The one I linked has a 2009 copyright. You may want to poke around the site and investigate the different versions of Webster's dictionary.

The Collins-Le Robert is a standard even in the print dictionary domain. It contains more entries than most of the other French dictionary apps out there, although the Android version seems to have more entries than the iOS one.

32-bit Windows En-Ru-En installer, 78MB - this one in addition to the program itself has two dictionaries (Apresyan En-Ru and Smirnitskiy Ru-En) and English word pronunciations. It allows trying out the program instantly without searching for any dictionary content. If you are upgrading from the previous version, do a complete uninstall first, otherwise the program won't automatically use the content.

Linux users: Linux versions usually come without morphology files. You can use system myspell/hunspell files, but there are better versions with more stems available specially for GoldenDict. Download them here. Unzip them to a separate directory and change morphology path in the program to point to it. Do not replace your system myspell dictionaries with those files - they don't add any new words, just more stems.
